What is a PT100 Temperature Sensor?
Dec 30, 2024
A PT100 temperature sensor is one particular type of RTD (resistance temperature detector).
PT100 RTDs use a resistive element made up of a ceramic or glass core wrapped in fine platinum metal wire whose resistance changes in a precise and predictable manner with fluctuations in temperature. This change in resistance is used to correlate a temperature reading.
Although platinum metal is expensive, it provides both greater linearity and greater stability than other materials.
The PT100 temperature sensor resistance at zero degrees Celsius is equal to 100 ohms, providing an accurate and reliable way to monitor temperatures.
